McConnell: Bridging the gaps
June 14, 2010
The break between rounds of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship hasn’t stopped Billy McConnell keeping up the racing adrenaline rush with the CAME Yamaha rider competing at motocross events.
McConnell and his CAME Yamaha team-mate James Westmoreland are now gearing up for a test later this week ahead of the next round of the championship at Mallory Park in just over two weeks’ time.
McConnell said: “I have been doing a bit of motocross and have done a few races on the YZ450 up at Stratford and I have to say that it has been fun although at the minute you end up spending longer cleaning it than you do racing it! In the races I do get a bit of red mist, all riders generally do, but I know that I do it for a laugh and it is nothing more than that. I don’t need to prove myself there so it is a good day out with my mates.
“My fiancée is also over now from Australia and we have been to London and hopefully will get some time away before we test later this week which I am really looking forward to. I feel that the win at Cadwell Park seemed like a long time coming but now I am ready to get out there testing and be ready to win again at Mallory Park which is my home round.”
