McConnell: Australia, unfinished business and racing Richards

CAME Yamaha’s Billy McConnell admits he is counting down the days until the Easter weekend season opener of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch, as he wants to race against his newest rival Glen Richards.

McConnell and Richards train together in the UK and the Australian is eager to get back on the newly-liveried CAME Yamaha and compete against his new opponent. However, in the meantime McConnell has been working hard back home in Adelaide, getting engaged and relishing the opportunity to go jet skiing in the heat!

McConnell told the BSB website: “I have been back in Australia since November and I have actually been back at work at my Dad’s Jet Ski shop. It’s been red hot back here; it was 43 degrees yesterday which is a bit too hot! I have to stay inside with the air conditioning on, a bit like you guys I guess but you just had heaters on for the snow instead!

“I have been working and training so I am ready for the new season. I have been doing a lot of Jet Ski riding and I try to get out a couple of times a week. I was out riding with a good friend of mine Jake Barker recently; he is a two time Australian Pro-ski champion, so I have been trying to pick up a few tips! I also recently got engaged to my long term girlfriend Jessi.

“I am looking forward to this year as I have unfinished business in the championship. I am really happy to be with Raceways again and to have such a great sponsor as CAME. But what I am most excited about is racing against the man and my close friend that helped me get into the sport, Glen Richards. Bring it on!”
