McConnell: Testing, Olympic training and official team launch
May 9, 2010
Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship contender Billy McConnell is gearing up for the CAME Yamaha pre-season test next week at Almeria and following training sessions with a former Olympic athlete he is ready to get out on track.
McConnell returned from Australia and after catching up with the CAME Yamaha team is determined to go one better this year after finishing runner-up in 2009. The test marks a hectic month for the Australian who will then be heading back to the UK in time for the team’s official launch at CAME Manchester on 25/26/27 March.
McConnell said: “I am back in the UK now, which for me means the real countdown to the start of the season and I can’t wait! I have been down to the workshop and the CAME Yamaha looks really trick so I am really buzzing about testing in Spain next week, especially as the boys have been working really hard to make some progress with some modifications over the winter. The track time in Almeria will be a good opportunity for us to get ahead of the game so we will be raring to go at round one.
“I came back from Australia two weeks ago and as well as going to see the crew at Raceways I have also been to see the team at CAME. Once we are back from testing we have an official team launch at CAME’s new Manchester branch on 25/26/27 March, so it will be cool to see some of you there as you can meet the team, the bikes and loads more.
“I have been keeping up the training since I have been back, it is obviously slightly different from what I have been doing back home, but I have been working out with Glen (Richards). We have been out training with Derek Redmond, the former Olympic 400m runner and he definitely pushes us. It won’t be long now until we take that rivalry to the track!”
The CAME Yamaha launch takes place at CAME Manchester, Unit 14, Latham Close, Bredbury Park Industrial Estate, Bredbury, Stockport, SK6 2SD
A quick pre-registration for the event is required. Register online at www.cameuk.com or by calling Raceways Motorcycles on 01253 872 037.
